Ilhan Radetinac is the founder and editor of Avangarda, an author, researcher, and documentary storyteller from Novi Pazar. His work moves between human rights, transitional justice, environmental justice, public policy, and media, with a particular focus on the Balkans and local communities that often remain outside the main political and media frame.
He studied Communication and Public Relations at International Balkan University in Skopje and completed a Master’s degree in Democracy and Human Rights through the joint programme of the University of Sarajevo and the University of Bologna. He connects this academic background with field research, documentation, and storytelling about social processes that cannot be understood only through institutions, but also through the lives of the people directly affected by them.
He worked with the Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo on transitional justice, documentation of human rights violations, and dealing with the past, and through the Global Campus of Human Rights developed the documentary project “The Story of Rogozna: The Disappearing Mountain”, a story about environmental degradation, local communities, and a landscape disappearing quietly, far from public attention. His work brings together research, film, writing, and public advocacy, without reducing complex issues to simple slogans.
Through Avangarda, he is building a space for articles, analysis, documentary stories, and public memory. For him, human rights are not decorative institutional language, but a question of power, dignity, responsibility, and who gets to be seen, heard, and protected.
