Hate Graffiti: When a Wall Becomes a Message of Fear
Nationalist slogans, the glorification of convicted war criminals, Nazi symbols, and threats targeting Muslims, migrants and LGBT+ people have remained for years on walls, façades, passageways and other surfaces used every day. This gallery brings together examples of such messages from public spaces across Serbia. The photographs document different forms of political and ideological marking of space, ranging from war revisionism and extreme nationalism to homophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia and explicit calls for violence. The gallery accompanies the analysis “Public Space Is Not Neutral: How Hate Graffiti Creates Zones of Fear” and documents what can become part of the everyday landscape when messages of hatred remain unanswered for long enough.

Nature Within Us: Rogozna Between Forest, Logging Traces and Silence
This gallery was created during the “Nature Within Us” workshop, held as part of activities dedicated to the relationship between people, nature and the local community. The photographs were taken on Rogozna, a place that for the people of this region is not only a mountain, but also a space of memory, everyday life, water, forest and silence. These frames do not present nature as a postcard. They show what often remains outside official narratives: tree stumps, broken trees, bare soil, waste and traces of human presence in a space that should be protected with care, not consumed by neglect. The gallery is part of Avangarda’s broader work documenting environmental issues in Sandžak, especially on Rogozna, where questions of forests, water, mining, local community and the right to a healthy environment cannot be viewed separately.

When the Neighbourhood Takes the Wall Into Its Own Hands
Uroš and Mari launched an initiative in their neighbourhood to transform a neglected, graffiti-covered wall into a community mural. People from the neighbourhood, including children and young people, joined the action, turning a space previously covered in graffiti into a place of collective work. The photographs follow the entire process: the wall before the intervention, the first layers of paint, the participants at work and the completed mural. The initiative began with people who know and use this space every day and decided to change it themselves. The gallery documents a small local example of how shared spaces can be changed through the initiative of the people who live around them.
