Democracy / parliamentary elections / electoral rights
Serbia’s parliamentary election law regulates electoral rights, nominations, lists, election administration, voting, results, allocation and termination of mandates. Citizens elect members of parliament; the Republic Electoral Commission and other statutory electoral bodies administer the process. Voters, list submitters, candidates and accredited observers have different powers. Not every participant may initiate every proceeding under identical conditions. Their specific role matters when selecting a remedy.
Before an election, check your electoral register entry and polling place through the responsible system. For nomination or list support, use current forms and instructions for that election. The 2026 amendments permit support for more than one list and provide reporting to the prosecutor where misuse of personal data in signatures is suspected. Minority-list rules do not mean that every list requesting that status automatically receives it. Examine the relevant decision and current requirements.
For an irregularity, record location, time, specific conduct and available evidence without compromising ballot secrecy. Identify whether a request, objection or another step is appropriate and who may submit it. The deadline and deciding body depend on the particular act and current electoral timetable. Posting on social media does not itself constitute formal protection of electoral rights. Retain the submission, delivery confirmation and reply, and read remedy information promptly.
The original law appears in Official Gazette 14/2022 of 7 February 2022, amended by 47/2026 of 21 May 2026. The original took effect the following day; the amendment on the eighth day. Amendment Articles 3 and 4 and 6–10 making training an appointment requirement apply from 1 January 2028. Other changes are not deferred by that provision. The linked official PDF 1551-26 contains only the 2026 amendment and must be read with original text 86-22 and current electoral acts. The older 2023 commission collection does not include this amendment.
